Abstract

The RESILIAGE project has recently completed several key community engagement activities across Europe, focusing on building local resilience.

All activities followed a similar structure, beginning with opening remarks, followed by sessions on local cooperation strategies, featuring insights on recent scientific research and innovative crisis management tools.

The RAISE tool, designed to enhance community emergency response, was launched and explored by the local participants. In addition, discussions and workshops emphasized local knowledge and cultural heritage’s role in resilience.

Participants explored integrating cultural assets into disaster preparedness, with practical exercises and case studies highlighting how historical and cultural insights can strengthen community responses to crises. This holistic approach underscored the importance of preserving local traditions in crisis management plans.

  • In Famenne-Ardenne, a two-day event took place on April 3rd and 4th brought together local organizations, emergency services, and community leaders to discuss innovative tools and strategies for crisis management, emphasizing the importance of local knowledge, collaboration, and the use of modern technology to enhance community resilience.
  • Naturtejo‘s hands-on activities took place on the 22nd and 23rd of April and engaged local environmental groups, students, and volunteers in promoting environmental stewardship and crisis management through practical exercises and educational sessions.
  • In Karsiyaka, the event on May 7th and 8th featured workshops and collaborative sessions with local government officials, educators, and community members to strengthen local resilience and disaster readiness.
  • Crete‘s activation activities took place on the 21st and 22nd of May and counted with the participation from local residents, municipal officials, and volunteers in initiatives aimed at improving disaster preparedness and community response.
  • In Trondheim, the first round of onsite activities on June 12th and 13th included local stakeholders such as municipal representatives, community leaders, and volunteers working together on resilience strategies and emergency preparedness.

These activities highlight the diverse and community-driven approach of RESILIAGE in fostering resilience and preparedness across different regions.
