SD-WISHEES project

The SD-WISHEES project (Supporting and Developing WIdening Strategies to tackle Hydroclimatic Extreme Events: impacts and Sustainable solutions for cultural heritage) is a Horizon Europe initiative addressing the growing threats that floods, droughts, and other hydroclimatic extreme events pose to cultural heritage in Europe and beyond. Its central aim is to strengthen collaboration between national research and innovation programmes so that countries can jointly develop strategies for protecting tangible, intangible, and natural cultural heritage from climate-related risks.
By fostering cooperation across the fields of climate, water, and cultural heritage, SD-WISHEES works to align national research agendas, support widening countries — particularly in the Balkans and Africa — and ensure that results contribute to European and international policy frameworks, including the Green Deal, the Adaptation Strategy, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The project places strong emphasis on creating the conditions for the uptake of research and innovation results, providing recommendations and pathways for research funders and policy makers to integrate solutions into broader strategies.
