Karawanken Geopark - Austria
The Geopark is one of 5 cross-border Geoparks worldwide and is formed by 14 municipalities, 5 on the Slovenian side and 9 on the Austrian side. It is characterised by the Karawanken mountain range, with peaks up to 2100 metres above sea level.
In the last 10 years, the area has been hit by several natural disasters, with the entire area being affected by the effects of heavy extreme rainfall at the same time, especially in August 2023.
