Horizon Europe RESILIAGE Project to Revolutionise Community Resilience
The RESILIAGE project, funded by the Horizon Europe programme, officially commenced its mission to enhance community resilience across Europe last September 2023. This three-year initiative, involving 18 partners, is set to address the pressing challenges posed by natural and man-made hazards, leveraging local heritage, advanced digital tools and soft solutions.
RESILIAGE is dedicated to empowering communities by providing them with the tools and knowledge necessary to effectively prepare for and respond to crises. By co-developing innovative solutions with local communities, the project aims to transform how societies perceive and manage risks.
The project focuses on holistic knowledge generation, understanding societal reactions to crises through comprehensive data collection and analysis, and converting qualitative insights into actionable, quantitative information. By creating digital and non-digital tools, RESILIAGE aims to improve connectivity between communities and first responders, ensuring better preparedness and post-disaster recovery.
A key aspect of RESILIAGE is community engagement. The project involves co-developing solutions with local communities in five key locations, known as CORE Labs, which include sites in Norway, Turkey, Portugal, Greece, and Belgium. These CORE Labs will serve as experimental grounds for testing and refining the innovative tools and strategies developed through the project.
Enhanced communication is another critical goal of RESILIAGE. The project aims to improve risk communication strategies to foster better cooperation between first responders and citizens, ultimately contributing to more resilient and well-prepared communities.
RESILIAGE recently concluded the first round of onsite activities in the CORE Labs and has organised a successful Summer School entitled SHEroes Resilience Summer School, which focused on empowering women in disaster risk reduction through heritage.
As RESILIAGE progresses, it will continue to engage with communities and stakeholders, promoting resilience through innovative solutions and sustainable practices. The project’s outcomes will significantly contribute to the EU’s goals of creating disaster-resilient communities.
